- Maintain strong colonies.
- Inspect regularly for AFB.
- Prevent robbing. Robbers from AFB-infected colonies can carry the disease to uninfected hives. Honey harbors AFB spores.
- Do not buy old, used equipment.
- Replace old combs regularly (at least every 5 years).
- Use clean hive tools and gloves (or wash hands) when moving from apiary to apiary.
