GOALS: Leadership Development

This past year I took on a new leadership experience and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I took on the role of Vice President of Outreach and Engagement for BuckeyeThon. BuckeyeThon is a student run philanthropy organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research at Nationwide Childrens Hospital. In my role I oversee a team of 30 students and together we work to engage campus, and plan all of our BuckeyeThon events, our most known being our annual 24 hour Dance Marathon. This has been a very rewarding experience for me as have gotten the chance to make so many great connections with staff from the university as well as from Nationwide Childrens Hospital. It has been a great way to give back to my community and have a lot of fun in the procces

GOALS: Global Awareness

This year I have improved my Global Awareness drastically. One of my most rewarding experiences my sophomore year was attending The Taste of OSU. It is a program put on by our Multi Cultural Center. The Taste of OSU is an event that takes up the entire Ohio Union for an evening. Over different ethnic student organizations come and set up a table to serve food from their respective cultures, and many of these organizations prepared performances as well. There were over 50 different organizations represented. It was a great experience because in one evening I got to experience so many cultures from around there world. It definitely widened my view on the world, and made me appreciate much more what other cultures have to offer.

This May I am so excited to announce that I am going on an education abroad trip to Australia and New Zealand. I am so excited for this opportunity to be able to dive into the culture of the pacific islands. I think it will be a very rewarding experience to be able to live in another country for a month. I am excited to see what kind of growth this will provide me as well as how it will expand my appreciation of the world culture.

Year in Review

Year in Review: 2017-2018

This past year has been very good to me. I feel that my first year has been a great success. Beyond making many great friends and memories, I also succeeded in all of my classes. I got heavily involved in BuckeyeThon and am now a General Body member, I feel this experience will be a great defining factor in my next three years. Through BuckeyeThon I met many great people and was introduced into the Greek community. I rushed in the spring and accepted a bid in Phi Kappa Tau, and am now an active brother. I think my greatest success in the past year was setting my roots in Columbus, when I return in the fall I feel I will be much more comfortable on campus and studying for my classes. I now also have a great support system and group of friends around me. Next year I would like to look into studying abroad and getting involved in undergraduate research.

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .

Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.

Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.

This semester I interviewed a Senior, Colin Quinn, to understand my own academic goals. I interviewed Colin because he was just accepted into medical school, which is my goal some day. We went through a four year scheduling plan, and a studying plan for the MCAT. I also studied with Colin on multiple occasions to understand how he studies and becomes successful academically.

Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.

Much of my service is completed through my involvement with BuckeyeThon and Phi Kappa Tau. Through BuckeyeThon I volunteer working many of our fundraising events and at our signature event, the Dance Marathon for 30+ hours in one weekend. My fraternity is involved with many service opportunities including the MLK day of service and the Boys and Girls Club.
