About Taleen

My name is Taleen Avitsian and I am an aspiring pediatric psychiatrist and a first year Health Sciences Scholar studying neuroscience on a pre-med track. I aim to specialize in behavioral analytics, specifically pertaining to addiction and abuse affecting youth in urban communities. To help me prepare for my future plans and career at Ohio State, I engaged in volunteering as a youth counselor and music instructor at a Cleveland-based shelter care and behavioral facility targeting urban populations. Additionally, I have conducted research that is currently under consideration for publication on the effects of music as a deterrent in the behavioral performance of this same demographic. Before beginning my undergraduate studies at the Ohio State University, I was highly involved in a variety of extracurriculars, primarily focusing on speech and debate. With a growing interest in communication and minority studies, I also led my school’s diversity acceptance program and organized panel discussions among my peers to encourage inclusiveness and educational discussion throughout my school. My future plans include extending these interests and opening a psychiatric rehabilitation and recreational facility for urban youth exposed to gang violence, abuse, neglect, and addiction. While at Ohio State, I plan to tutor underprivileged youth in the Columbus area, stay active with my music, and explore minors in child abuse and law enforcement. Through my positive attitude, past experiences, and extensive passion for helping others, I will push boundaries and excel at Ohio State.
