ACEL Students at the Ohio State Fair

Students in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership were very active at the 2015 Ohio State Fair. They held leadership positions on the Ohio State Junior Fairboard, organized and facilitated skillathons for 4-H youth, and served as agricultural ambassadors in the Ohio Farm Bureau Ag & Hort Building.

This week, Lydia Phillippi tells us about her experience as an agricultural ambassador with Ohio Farm Bureau.

I chose to be ambassador for Ohio Farm Bureau for me to gain experience in agricultural communication. This ambassadorship was a great opportunity that worked with my busy schedule.

My favorite part of working as ambassador was getting to meet people from all over and from all different walks of life at the Ohio State Fair. I found it amazing that some people did not know what a combine was or how much work was put into making their food.

I honestly liked staffing all the stations in the Ag & Hort  Building. I wouldn’t have wanted to work at just one the duration of the fair because I learned something new about both the people around me and myself at each one.

This expercience helped confirm that agricultural communication is the right major and Ohio State is the right place for me!  It really helped confirm decisions about what I want to do when I graduate.
