  • Susan Lee
    • She is a great advisor to students and leaves a positive impact.”
  • Matt Waitkus
    • Matt is one of the best “conflict management” advisors in the office, and he is tireless (at least it seems so lately!). For the consistently calming, straightforward advice he gives, to both our student AND parent populations, he definitely deserves a shout out. Thanks for handling so many of tough ones, Matt!”

  • Emily Carpenter
    • Emily is an excellent advocate for all of her students! She is proactive with her outreach to students in order to prevent potential issues whenever possible, and, of course, always helpful whenever students come to her with any problems they may be facing. She is an incredibly patient and supportive supervisor and coworker, as well. She deserves to be recognized for her hard work!”

She has taken on new responsibilities and has become the advisor for our non-traditional scholarship and AA program. It has been so great to watch her grow over this year and build important relationships with her students. She is an amazing asset to OSU!”

November 2022 Advisor of the Month

Check out some of the wonderful things our advising colleagues have done this past month! Thank you to each of you for all of your hard work and dedication to the students in your areas and OSU!

  • Amanda Kallach and Kendall Coffman
    • I am nominating Amanda and Kendall for their positive contributions to our office morale. In mid-Autumn semester, they formed an unofficial arts committee and started a ‘This or That’ interactive bulletin board in our office space. This group activity has generated many ‘spirited’ debates and lots of laughs, and really lifted our team’s spirits during the busy scheduling season. We can’t wait to see what the next week’s topic will be – and are very grateful for these small but not insignificant contributions to office morale. Thank you, Amanda and Kendall!”
  • Fran Bowes
    • Fran has gone above and beyond in our office. Due to staff shortages and transitions, she has taken on a great deal of extra tasks in addition to her advisee load. Even with all the extra responsibility, she empowers every student who walks into her office, joins her zoom room, or talks with her on the phone. The work she does to connect with students cannot be overstated.”
  • Angela LeCount Melamed
    • There are no words to describe how kind and generous Angie has been with her time and her extensive advising knowledge. Not only does she make sure every single student that comes into her office has the best experience possible, she also takes on the task of training us new advisors in the office too. Angie will answer a million questions per day from us and will still tell you that you haven’t asked too many questions. She gives her time and her knowledge freely to everyone and she makes the rest of us better advisors because of it. Thank you for your guidance and leadership Angie! You are the best!”

The winner of this month’s ACADAOS raffle is… Fran Bowes! Congratulations!

June-October 2022 Advisors of the Month

It’s been a while since the last Advisor of the Month post, but advisors and other staff continue to do great work across campus all months of the year. Here are just some examples of what that has looked like. Thank you to each of you for all of your hard work and dedication to the students in your areas and OSU!

  • Meg Downing
    • Meg has been a wonderful resource and go-to person for all questions related to degree audit exceptions and GEN. She is always quick to reply to email questions and even will pause in her own work to answer instant message questions in the moment. Thanks Meg for being you. You ROCK!”
  • Cecilia Johnson
    • Cecilia worked to help an international student who had a family tragedy and was not enrolled in any classes Week 1 to enroll full-time by the end of Week 2. The student has a double-major and was emailing two advisors at one time. Cecilia was wonderful in keeping both advisors and the student updated on the progress and plan for autumn. Thanks Cecilia!”
  • Heather Kerr
    • Heather worked with new international students over summer enrolled in the EDUTL 1901 class. She then continued to try to support these students when no advisor was listed in the system for the major. These new students were confused and unsure where to go with their questions. She provide reassurance and guidance on their next steps. Thank you for helping to reduce these students anxiety.”
  • Dr. Wayne Schlingman
    • Wayne goes above and beyond for every undergraduate in the Department of Astronomy. Not only does he run the summer research program, but he goes out of his way to make sure the students are doing well. He will actively reach out during tough times in the semester to check in with students individually. He will also always help you with anything academic or life related. Without him, many undergrads studying Astronomy or Physics would be lost or at a much less advantageous position in life. Words cannot describe the amount of effort and care he puts in for the students and wellbeing of the department as a whole.”
  • Sara E. Watson
    • On being an outstanding and supportive advisor as well as great role model for her students”

ACADAOS is excited to announce the return of the monthly raffle for Advisor of the Month with this month’s winners being… Cecilia Johnson and Dr. Wayne Schlingman! Congratulations!
