Advisor of the Month – February 2016

Nominees

Katie Watkins Katie Watkins is an excellent candidate for Advisor of the Month due to her contributions to both our students and the College of Pharmacy in the month of February.

The “Dinner with the Dean” event that Katie planned for our Pharmacy House LC turned out to be one of the most successful programs we’ve had this year. 15 first-year students and 10 faculty and staff had the opportunity get to know each other on a more personal basis, building relationships and giving students the opportunity to learn more about what they can do now to achieve their academic and professional goals.

In February, Katie had also been leading the administration of the Early Admission Pathway program (EAP), which provides promising incoming first-year students guaranteed admission into our Doctor of Pharmacy program. This year we’ve had almost twice as many applications, requiring her to process over 40 applications while also fielding questions from students and parents.

Lastly, I should also mention that Katie had been on the front line of dealing with some complicated student issues this month and handled them with professionalism and care for the students. She always does a great job but I feel like this month especially she deserves to be recognized for the additional responsibilities she’s had to take on and the positive attitude she does it with.

If you have already completed Tiers 1 and 2, you might be looking for ways to earn more points in Tier 3. Over the past few weeks, we have been updating and adding professional development opportunities and resources to the Professional Development section of the ACADAOS web site. Most of the professional development opportunities we’ve highlighted are free (yay!) and many are asynchronous, meaning you can do them when you have time! If you have other ideas you would like to see highlighted on that page, please feel free to email von-spiegel.2@osu.edu or howard.933@osu.edu.

If you do find a professional development opportunity which has an associated cost, we are also excited to announce the launch of our online Professional Development Fund Grant Application! Any dues-paid ACADAOS member is eligible to apply for a professional development grant up to $100 per membership year to support your professional development ventures. Details about the grant can be found on the application page.

Happy developing!
