Basket Auction to Benefit Two 4-Hers’ Inauguration Trip

The proceeds from the silent ‘gift basket’ auction at this year’s Legacy Dinner will provide funding for the trip of a lifetime for two Fairfield County 4-H members. The two youth who are selected – one boy and one girl – will represent Fairfield County by attending a special Citizenship Washington Focus trip for the Presidential Inauguration in January 2017. To apply 4-H members from age 14 through 17 completed a 2016 Ohio 4-H Achievement Form and wrote a 500 word essay that answered the question, “How would the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and 4-H impact your life and why do you want to experience this unique opportunity?

The trip will be January 17-21, 2017 and will allow participants to learn the meaning and importance of the Democratic process while exploring the history of the Presidency, the election process, and the role of the press. They will discover the intricacies of the Executive Branch and careers in politics while practicing their role in citizenship through service, civic education, and engagement. This will be accomplished while participating in workshop sessions, hearing from a variety of speakers, visiting memorials, historical sites, and museums, and experiencing the Inauguration Day events.

The total cost of the trip is $1,050 per member with the 4-H member paying the first $260.00. To help the Fairfield County 4-H Advisory Committee fund the balance, 100% of the proceeds from the silent ‘gift basket’ auction at this year’s Legacy Dinner are being committed to the benefit of this unique opportunity for these two local youth.

If you’d like to support this effort, it’s simple. All you need to do attend the Legacy Dinner and Auction and join in the fun by bidding early and often on the unique gift baskets being offered.
